Victoria Wirth Reynolds, the Chief Gemologist at Tiffany & Co., expressed excitement about their latest gemstone addition. “As the foremost expert in rare gemstones, we are excited to share the news of acquiring the Tiffany Muzo Emerald,” she stated. This notable emerald, tipping the scales at over 10 carats, continues Tiffany’s long tradition of securing the most sought-after gemstones provided by nature.

The Emerald’s Distinctive Qualities

This emerald, claimed to be the finest ever extracted from the esteemed Muzo mines of Colombia, is now a celebrated Tiffany & Co. gemstone. Harvested from the historical Puerto Arturo shaft in December 2019, the over 10-carat, rectangular square cut emerald is distinguished by its unparalleled clarity. This quality grants it an extraordinary transparency that accentuates its striking color. The emerald is nearly free of fissures and displays minimal inclusions, which are only detectable under a microscope and typical of those found in Colombian emeralds from the Muzo mine. Additionally, this historic emerald is praised for its perfectly saturated green color, making it a highly coveted piece due to its large size, origin, color, and exceptional crystal clarity.
