Adidas unveils the VeloStan Smith, a fresh take on the iconic sneaker tailored for urban cyclists and commuters. The shoe preserves the classic silhouette of the original Stan Smith, but introduces a two-bolt SPD-cleat system for clipless pedal cycling. This innovation marks its entry into adidas’ city cycling collection, offering an everyday footwear option for those eager to explore their surroundings on two wheels.

Legacy of Stan Smith Sneakers

Adidas and the American tennis legend, Stan Smith, first joined forces in 1978. Over the past five decades, the Stan Smith sneaker has continually redefined the concept of a sports shoe. It’s not just a staple on the court, but also a fashion phenomenon and a cultural icon. The VeloStan Smith now extends this stylish legacy to city commuters all over.

Designed for Cycling and Walking

The shoe’s cycling-specific adjustments are led by a two-bolt cleat mount that is compatible with SPD clipless pedals. This subtle two-bolt system is embedded in the midsole, enabling cyclists and commuters to transition seamlessly between cycling and walking without changing footwear.

Comfort in Motion

In addition to the cleat system, the shoe features a rigid nylon plate within a synthetic sole. This new design covers the front two-thirds of the sole, providing stiffness for efficient cycling movements, while still ensuring flexibility and comfort for walking.

Standout Features of VeloStan Smith

The upper part of the shoe is made from soft, full-grain leather, ensuring durability for all-season use. The iconic green foam heel and the perforated three stripes remain, carrying forward the original silhouette’s signature elements. For this special edition, the tongue is embossed with a gold portrait of Stan Smith and his racing bike, a detail unique to the VeloStan Smith.

Retaining its unique design attributes, the shoe’s shape is modified for urban cycling adventures.
The sneaker incorporates a two-bolt SPD-cleat for clipless pedals and a nylon sole plate to ensure rigidity on the bike and versatile comfort when walking.
