Unveiling the New Manchester United Home Kit

Adidas has just revealed the latest Manchester United Home Kit for the 2024/25 season. The design is unique and has been crafted to turn heads under the bright lights of Old Trafford, thanks to a special glow effect created by various shades of red.

Historical Inspiration for the Design

The design draws from the iconic shirts worn by the Busby Babes. These shirts were made from ‘fluorescent’ materials to improve players’ visibility under the floodlights. These special rayon fabrics seemed to change color, showing different shades of red based on how light was reflected off them under the stadium lights.

Bold Red Combinations for a Modern Look

For the 2024/25 version, a variety of bold reds have been mixed to produce a gradient of light to dark red that courses down the shirt’s main body. This creates the illusion of a constantly shifting color. A vibrant, flame-like red insert, never before seen on a Manchester United home kit, runs down the side panel of the jersey and shorts, forming a striking line that stands out against the stadium backdrop as the players move around.

The design takes inspiration from reflective jerseys the Busby Babes experimented in between 1952-57, which appeared as a different shade of red depending on the viewing angle under the stadium lights.

Final Touches and Details

The look is finished with a seasonal crew neck, and the adidas three-stripes running down the shoulders, the adidas logo, and sponsor logos all appear in a contrasting white. The club’s rich heritage is acknowledged with a red devil sign off, placed on the front of the accompanying black socks.

“The colour red is consistently fundamental to the club’s DNA. There have been many different expressions of it over the years and, for 24/25, we wanted to do something a bit different. We’ve drawn inspiration from shirts that Manchester United experimented with from 1952-57 as floodlights were introduced to stadiums. These were fantastic early examples of creative design in matchwear and were worn by some of the club’s most legendary players. The colour-shifting appearance of these was a big influence in this season’s modern expression of the home kit, designed to capture attention from all angles on pitch.”
