Leica Camera's Entry into the SL-System
In 2015, Leica Camera AG introduced the SL-System, merging photography and videography uniquely from the outset. This full-frame system, built on the L-Mount standard, secured Leica's position in professional audiovisual production.
The Launch of the Leica SL3
The latest iteration of SL-System cameras, the Leica SL3, debuted in March 2024. Like all Leica products, it upholds the highest standards of image and production quality, setting new benchmarks with its innovative user interface.
Introducing the Leica SL3-S
The new SL-System camera, the Leica SL3-S, embodies these values. It features a BSI CMOS full-frame sensor with a 24-megapixel native resolution, along with 48- and 96-megapixel multi-shot modes. A new autofocus system is central to this camera.
Advanced Autofocus and Speed
Protected by an IP54-certified solid all-metal body, the SL3-S integrates three advanced focus technologies: phase detection AF, depth map AF, and contrast detection AF. This allows continuous shooting at up to 30 frames per second with full autofocus support, making it the fastest Leica camera to date.
Impressive Video Capabilities
The Leica SL3-S can record videos in up to 6K resolution and supports 3:2 open-gate recording for versatile content creation. It can also record portrait format videos in 4K at 9:16 without quality loss and adjust the field of view after recording.
Professional Recording Features
With HDMI-RAW recording in 5.9K at 30 fps and ProRes 4:2:2 HQ in 5.8K at 30 fps or C4K at 60 fps, the SL3-S offers no limit on recording time. It supports direct recording to external SSDs via USB-C, enhancing flexibility. A dedicated timecode interface ensures professional synchronization of image and sound.
Advanced Processing and Compatibility
The Maestro IV processor, featuring L2 technology, manages large data volumes effortlessly, providing excellent color rendering, dynamic range, and noise performance in the L-Log color space. This processor is internationally acclaimed for its quality.
Lens Compatibility and Availability
Thanks to the L-Mount, the SL3-S is compatible with a broad range of Leica lenses and those from L-Mount alliance partners. It supports Cine lenses via adapters, with scales accessible in the video menu. Leica M-Lenses can fully leverage the image sensor and an external light sensor.
The Leica SL3-S is available globally in all Leica Stores, on the Leica Online Store, and through specialized dealers, priced at $5,295.
