Adidas and Texas Tech Launch New Uniforms
Adidas and Patrick Mahomes have introduced a fresh Texas Tech University football uniform that displays Mahomes’ distinctive “Gladiator” logo. This marks one of the initial instances where an athlete’s personal branding is incorporated into official on-field apparel.
The Mahomes Strategy Uniform
The Mahomes Strategy uniform features a Dark Grey tackle swill with printed metallic films and Power Red highlights. It draws inspiration from the 45-degree bevels seen throughout Texas Tech’s campus and Mahomes’ unique iconography, with the helmet, logos, and numbers showcasing a metallic film with galvanized finishes. The Texas Tech football team will debut this uniform at home against Colorado on November 9.
“Seeing my own logo on the Texas Tech uniform I put so much blood, sweat and tears in is one of the most meaningful off-field accomplishments of my career,” said Mahomes, a Texas Tech alum. “I want to thank the three-stripe family for giving me this one-of-a-kind opportunity.”
Innovative Athlete-Brand Partnerships
Adidas and Mahomes have continuously explored new frontiers in athlete-brand collaborations, starting when Mahomes initially taped a handwritten adidas logo over a competing brand while supporting Texas Tech basketball in 2019.
Expanded Product Offerings
The introduction of the Mahomes Strategy uniform is the latest development in the ongoing collaboration between adidas, Mahomes, and Texas Tech. This partnership has consistently set new benchmarks in collegiate athletics and NIL. The new Texas Tech x Patrick Mahomes collection includes several additional items for Red Raiders fans, such as a Dark Grey quarter-zip, fleece hoodie, and a new Ultraboost 5X colorway — all adorned with Mahomes’ Gladiator logo.
Adidas and Texas Tech’s Groundbreaking Initiatives
When adidas became the official partner for the Red Raiders in July, the launch collection for the 10-year partnership featured co-branded apparel with Mahomes’ logo — a pioneering move for any adidas athlete. In August, adidas and Mahomes announced the signing of six Texas Tech student-athletes to “Team Mahomes,” the three-time Super Bowl champion’s innovative NIL initiative with adidas.
“The unveil of the adidas Strategy uniform by Patrick Mahomes further amplifies the power of this partnership,” said Kirby Hocutt, Director of Athletics at Texas Tech University. “We are proud to be the first collegiate adidas partner to utilize an athlete partner’s logo as there is no more powerful brand in sports than Patrick Mahomes. We look forward to debuting this uniform in front of a sold-out Jones AT&T Stadium on Nov. 9 against Colorado.”
Recent Partnership Activations
Recent partnership activations with Texas Tech underscore how adidas and Mahomes have continually found new ways to elevate their combined brands. Mahomes’ signature shoe, the Mahomes 2, launched with a sold-out model just before Mahomes’ third Super Bowl victory in February and has seen new variations this year, including the “Race Against Time” release in August.
