Launch of Art in Resonance 2025
The Peninsula Hong Kong has unveiled its 2025 "Art in Resonance" programme, continuing its dedication to supporting emerging and mid-career artists since it began in 2019. This innovative exhibition, launched during Hong Kong Art Week, features commissioned works from Hong Kong artists Phoebe Hui and Chris Cheung, known as h0nh1m, along with Shanghai artist Lin Fanglu, in partnership with the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A).
Transformative Artworks on Display
From late March until May 2025, these innovative artworks will transform the public areas of The Peninsula Hong Kong. This will allow both hotel guests and art lovers to explore contemporary art within the renowned flagship hotel.
A Milestone in Artistic Commitment
Gareth Roberts, Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of The Peninsula's parent company, The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited, stated, "This exhibition marks a significant milestone in our ongoing dedication to fostering artistic creativity and cultural exchange. We are thrilled to collaborate with the V&A to bring these works, along with future pieces, to the museum's presentation. Our partnership will expand the audience for these incredibly talented artists."
Celestial Installation by Phoebe Hui
The first artwork to welcome visitors is Lunar Rainbow, a massive 56-square-metre celestial-themed piece on the hotel's exterior by multimedia artist Phoebe Hui. This installation features fragmented images of the moon laser-printed on 49 aluminum plates. The creation uses a custom program to track the evolution of lunar imagery from 17th-century scientific drawings to modern open-source archives, merging the past with the present through a contemporary perspective.
Celebrating Feminine Strength with Lin Fanglu
In The Lobby, textile artist Lin Fanglu presents She's Bestowed Love, curated by Dr. Xiaoxin Li from the V&A's Asia Department. This large work showcases vibrant red sculptural forms celebrating feminine strength. Smaller forms orbiting the central piece represent individual stories, symbolizing the myriad moments that shape a woman's life. Drawing from Yunnan's Bai minorities' ancient textile traditions and the nurturing spirit of Greek goddess Gaia, the work links cultural heritage with modern expression. Following its display in Hong Kong, the installation will travel to London's V&A South Kensington.
Innovative Installation by Chris Cheung
At The Verandah, new media artist Chris Cheung presents The Flow Pavilion, an immersive installation in partnership with Tai Ping. This one-way mirror structure, inspired by a modern tea house, serves as the centrepiece of a Zen Garden in the café area. Visitors can experience the 'Flow State', a meditative exploration of self-connection, observing a kinetic sphere move across a hand-tufted silk carpet, echoing designs typical of a Zen Garden.
