A Tribute to French Art de Vivre
In early 2024, Maison Martell will introduce a distinguished collection that honors French art de vivre by featuring the nation’s prestigious châteaux, beginning with the historic Château de Chanteloup.

A Golden Age of Cognac and Art de Vivre
L’Or de Jean Martell – Réserve du Château represents a pinnacle of excellence, a tradition that began with Jean Martell’s founding of the cognac house in 1715, the same year as the death of Louis XIV, the “Sun King.” This period marked the golden age of French art de vivre, symbolized by its radiant and often gilded châteaux. The collection reflects this cultural heritage and the long-standing reputation of Maison Martell in crafting exceptional cognac for over 300 years.

A Blend of Heritage and Innovation
Each edition of L’Or de Jean Martell – Réserve du Château is crafted by Cellar Master Christophe Valtaud. He blends more than 1,400 eaux-de-vie from four of Cognac’s finest terroirs and incorporates a meticulous selection of eaux-de-vie representing the chosen château’s history and that of Maison Martell. Each edition is released yearly in extremely limited quantities, with only 1,000 individually numbered decanters.

First Edition: Château de Chanteloup
The initial release of this collection in 2024 celebrates Château de Chanteloup, the historic home of the Martell family in the heart of the Borderies terroir. The final stage of the ageing process took place at this very château, which embodies Martell’s signature elegance and generosity. The cognac also matures in a historic, dedicated cellar in Cognac before its final ageing phase at the château. As Cellar Master Christophe Valtaud stated, holding a bottle of L’Or de Jean Martell – Réserve du Château de Chanteloup is like holding a treasure that represents a 300-year quest for excellence.
A Monument to Blending Artistry
L’Or de Jean Martell – Réserve du Château is a testament to the blending mastery of Christophe Valtaud. Each eaux-de-vie is carefully selected and matured in fine-grained oak barrels until it reaches its aromatic peak. The complex blend is then enriched with eaux-de-vie that reflect both the château’s and Maison Martell’s histories.
An Elevated Ritual of Service
Opening with a bouquet of delicate floral notes, L’Or de Jean Martell – Réserve du Château de Chanteloup provides an extraordinary sensory journey. Floral aromas of iris, wild carnation, and honeysuckle blend with the sweet scents of red and black fruit, like cherry and blackcurrant, with a hint of spice. Earthy aromas and rancio notes emerge as the cognac evolves, and woody sandalwood and cedar fragrances recall the ancient French oak barrels used for maturation.
A Collaboration of Craftsmanship
Martell teamed up with Maison Baccarat to create a stunning crystal decanter that embodies both elegance and the rich blend within. The neck of the decanter is adorned with 19-carat gold and rests upon a gilded pedestal within a meticulously crafted wooden box. Two stoppers – one for travel and one for display – are included, along with a booklet recounting the story of L’Or de Jean Martell – Réserve du Château. The minimalist design and luxurious service ritual heighten anticipation and prestige.
